Our History

New Land Vineyard was one of the first wineries to open under New York State’s 1976-1982 Farm Winery laws.  The vineyard is located just south of Geneva, NY on the eastern side of Seneca Lake.  Although located in the Town of Fayette, in Seneca County, it has a Geneva, New York address.

New Land Vineyards opened in 1982 and was a pioneer in growing Vinifera grapes, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Noir.  By 1987, New Land Vineyard was employing traditional European methods to produce wines of exceptional quality.  The vineyards are also home to the oldest Merlot vines in the Finger Lakes as well as the only Sauvignon Blanc vines grown in the region.

On September 4, 2001, Dale J. Nagy, an Ohioan smitten with the Finger Lakes took over the winery and changed the name to Nagy’s New Land Vineyards & Winery.  As an experienced  winemaker, Nagy continues the commitment to quality that has been a trademark of the New Land Vineyard.

Born in Cleveland,  Nagy spent the last eighteen years in Akron, where he worked in quality assurance in the automotive industry.  However, his love was making wine.  Winemaking has been a  family tradition for many generations.  Nagy's Hungarian and Italian heritage sparked his passion.

Unlike the winery’s founder,  Nagy will turn all of the vineyard’s grapes into wine rather than selling a large percentage of them.  And all of the wines produced at Nagy’s New Land will continue to come from our own vineyards.

Just three short weeks after the purchase, Nagy’s New Land Vineyards & Winery harvested one of the highest quality crops the vineyard has ever produced.

We invite you to come taste our wines, share your thoughts and help us write the next chapter in our history.
